 www.indivisible.org
This week's Americans of Conscience Action Checklist is here.

Contact elected officials here.

• Tell Your Members of Congress to Stand Up for DREAMersFunding for the government runs out  on January 19. Tied in with that is legislation to protect DACA and the Dreamers. There are 11,900 DACA recipients in Oregon alone, and each year they contribute $20,021,000 in State and local taxes. There are 19,180 DACA recipients in Washington alone, and each year they contribute $51,272,000 in State and local taxes.

• Tell your Members of Congress to protect our people and planet. Other key issues tied up with government funding are the Children’s Health Insurance Plan, expansion of domestic surveillance power, and climate disaster aid.

• Our democracy is a sitting duck if we don’t protect ourselves from Russia-linked groups actively hacking the Senate and seeking to control our midterm elections. Time is short.

Suggested script for contacting your senators: I would like [name] to make election security a priority, especially by co-sponsoring the bipartisan Secure Elections Act [S.2261] that allows states to assess their risks and implement proven measures that protect the integrity of our vote.
Look what we did! Astoria Women's March, Saturday, January 20, 2017.
INCO encourages you to vote YES for Measure 101. If you want to help get out the vote in support, please contact Bebe Michel at littlebylittle4change@gmail.com  Ballots are due January 23 by 8 pm. Postmarks don't count.

SOLIDARITY
•  Congratulations to INCO's Vote the Future team for their excellent presentation to the Clatsop County Board of Commissioners at its January 10th meeting. Melissa Ousley, Mary Beth Cottle, and Andy Davis testified to the necessity of a voter information booklet  for all elections in Clatsop County. George McCartin, Tiffiny Mitchell, the VTF team leader, and Laurie Caplan also spoke in favor. The commissioners supported the concept and directed county staff to check out specific issues related to implementing a booklet before they vote on it at a future meeting.

•  One of the most conservative (and the 2nd wealthiest) members of Congress, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA 49), announced he “will not seek reelection.” Issa is the second California Republican to retire this week and joins a growing list of GOP House retirements.
Indivisible groups in San Diego showed up to Issa’s office 49 weeks in a rowwith an average of 370 constituents each and every week. Issa even once hid from Indivisibles on his office’s rooftop in the heat of the healthcare fight. And yesterday, Indivisible San Diego and other groups from their district held a retirement party for Issa (in the rain, no less!).
This is yet another exciting, movement-defining moment that comes from months of tenacious, relentless organizing from Indivisibles.

• INCO Indivisibles met the challenge of an anonymous donor to raise $500 in just 2 weeks! He matched that $500 so it's now $1000! Thank you to everyone who contributed. Contributions are always welcome. Donate via the INCO website, or mail your check to 766 Lexington Avenue, Astoria 97103.

Excerpts of wisdom and warnings from
ON TYRANNY: TWENTY LESSONS FROM THE TWENTIETH CENTURY
by Timothy Snyder, Tim Duggan Books, 2017.

Lesson 16.  Learn from peers in other countries. Since so much of what has happened in the last year is familiar to the rest of the world or from recent history, we must observe and listen.

Lesson 17.  Listen for dangerous words. People who assure you that you can only gain security at the price of liberty usually want to deny you both.

Lesson 18.  Be calm when the unthinkable arrives. For us, the natural lesson is that fear and grief must not enable the destruction of our institutions.
"While Republicans like Trump promote cynicism 24x7, pouring poison into the nation's bloodstream, the rest of us need to administer the only antidote that exists: engagement and idealism."
--Bill Camarda
We're Ready! Trump and Mueller
