WE NEED A SPENDING BILL THAT HELPS AMERICA
————————————————————————————
#TrumpShutdown
#DreamActNow
#FundChipNow

“It’s really simple. Republicans run everything and they cannot govern All we want is for them to do their job – the stuff that was routine before they took over, like disaster funding, kids health insurance, an actual budget” - Chris Murphy (D-Connecticut)

It shouldn’t be this hard.  A spending bill – not a continuing resolution – could address all of the above and more.

Continuing resolutions create uncertainty for the government.  Instead of a set budget that a spending bill provides, departments have been lurching from one continuing resolution to the next for the last nine years.  This has a negative impact on our country’s preparedness and modernization. It limits our ability to use funds efficiently and responsibly.

This is true of all departments, including the military. GOP talking points stress that service members won’t get paid during the #TrumpShutdown. (They choose to ignore the fact that Democratic Senator Claire McCaskilll made a motion to continue military pay during this period, and Mitch McConnell blocked it.) However, the GOP fails to mention that endless continuing resolutions hurt the health and readiness of the military and our country.

Our MoCs must work for a bipartisan spending bill that will provide lasting relief for America – including CHIP, immigrants, disaster relief and the federal government itself.

**ACTION: CALL OUR SENATORS and your REPRESENTATIVE**
(Leave a message if you can’t get through.)

SAMPLE SCRIPT to thank everyone but Walden:
“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I want to thank the Senator/Rep for his/her principled NO vote on the unjust continuing resolution.  I would like him/her to stand strong and work in unity on a spending bill, not a continuing resolution.  American needs an actual spending bill that will provide long lasting relief for CHIP, immigrants, disaster victims, and federal government. Thank you.”

SAMPLE SCRIPT for Walden:
“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I would like to express my disappointment and disgust in the Representative upholding Trump’s agenda and voting yes on the continuing resolution. Advocating for continuing resolution after continuing resolution is irresponsible – especially when it comes to the readiness of the federal government.  America needs an actual spending bill – one that will provide for CHIP, immigrants, disaster victims, and the federal government.
