SAVE ACA AND FUND COST SHARING REDUCTION PAYMENTS

Trump has been sabotaging the ACA since taking office. Once engaged citizens like YOU halted GOP efforts to repeal the ACA, Trump is determined to do it himself. Trump’s latest assault is to openly refuse to pay cost sharing reduction (CSR) subsidies.
CSR subsidies are how the federal government helps low income patients with co-payments and deductibles. These are not insurance company bailouts.
Eliminating CSR subsidies will
• raise premiums by up to 20% in 2018. Oregon managed to avoid most of this premium jump but has instructed insurers to increase premiums by 7% because of Trump’s actions
• increase the national deficit by $194 billion
• result in 1 million Americans losing their insurance
• cause insurers to leave the individual marketplace – which is already happening in Montana
Bipartisan support exists for CSR subsidies. In a joint editorial, former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich (R) and Former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D) stressed that “[w[hile paying. . .CRS subsidies is a tough pill for some Republicans to swallow, stabilizing the market should be even more important.”
Trump is hurting America by eliminating CRS subsidies. Congress must step in and fund them.

**ACTION 1: CALL BOTH OUR SENATORS and YOUR REPRESENATIVE**
SAMPLE SCRIPT – for everyone but Walden.
“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon, [zip code]. Thank you for everything you did to save the ACA. Now, it needs your help again. President Trump has cancelled Cost Sharing Reduction (CSR) payments – this will hurt low income patients the most. Please do all you can to pass clean CSR payment funding. Thank you.”
SAMPLE SCRIPT – for Walden.
“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon, [zip code]. I am very worried about Cost Sharing Reduction payments. These payments are not bailouts. They pay for services and help make healthcare affordable for low-income patients. Please stop playing games with our healthcare and pass CSR payment funding. Thank you.”
