DON’T GUT OUR GUN LAWS

Donald Trump is the first President in American history to be endorsed by the National Rifle Association, who contributed a record-breaking $30M to his campaign. http://to.pbs.org/2oVYd0h Now, they expect to get their money’s worth.  They are pushing to pass a bill that would undercut our nation’s already weak gun safety laws.

The Concealed Carry Reciprocity bill would force each state to recognize the concealed carry standards from every other state, including those that have dramatically weaker standards, and those that don’t require any permit at all. (H.R. 38; S.446) http://bit.ly/2gdvG6N; http://bit.ly/2wx1LfL

• It would force states to let violent offenders and people with no firearm safety training carry hidden, loaded handguns.

• This includes people with no permit whatsoever and who have never been screened by a background check.

With hate crimes on the rise and white supremacists marching with assault rifles, this is no time to gut our nation’s gun laws.

Our MoCs a mixed record on this bill. Congressmen DeFazio, Schrader and Walden all co-sponsored and voted for a similar bill in 2011. Walden is a co-sponsor of this year’s bill.

We must make it clear that we’re counting on our MoCs to protect our gun safety laws.

SAMPLE SCRIPT
“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am very concerned about the Concealed Carry Reciprocity bill, S. 446, which would gut Oregon’s gun laws by forcing us to recognize concealed carry standards of other states.   I’d like to thank the Senator for advocating for common sense gun laws in previous years. Can I count on the Senator to vote NO on Concealed Carry Reciprocity?”

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WALDEN, DEFAZIO AND SCHRADER
“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].  I am very concerned about the Concealed Carry Reciprocity bill, H.R. 38, which would gut Oregon’s gun laws by forcing us to recognize concealed carry standards of other states.  I am disappointed that the Congressman has supported similar bills in the past.  Gun safety is critical issue to his constituents. Can I count on him to vote NO on Concealed Carry Reciprocity?”
