FIGHT BIGOTRY: STOP EXTREMIST APPOINTEES
————————————————————————————
#FightBigotry

Trump is deconstructing our government from within. He continues to nominate extremists with views antithetical to the agencies they oversee.

Sam Clovis is nominated to be USDA’s top scientist. He is not fit for this job.  He is/was
• NOT a scientist
• a bigoted birther and climate change denier
• a conservative talk show host with racist, anti-LGBTQ views
• Trump’s campaign manager

Jeffrey Clark is nominated to head the DOJ’s Environmental Resource Division.  Clark has no business defending the environment since he:
• is climate change denier
• has long opposed environmental protections and attacked environmental agencies

Eric Dreiband is nominated to head the DOJ’s civil rights division.  Dreiband is not qualified for the job. He has
• no experience in division’s core areas (voting rights, hate crimes, policing reform, general criminal justice)
• spent his professional life defending corporations accused of employment discrimination and advocating for weaker anti-discrimination workplace protections

The Senate’s vetting system isn’t working.  Instead, Senators must use decisive tactics like placing “holds” on nominees.  Senator Wyden used a “hold” in the Russia investigation (http://cbsn.ws/2itBPfK). He and Senator Merkley must place holds on these nominees to prevent Trump’s destruction of executive agencies.

**ACTION 1: CALL BOTH SENATORS**
(leave a message after hours if necessary)

SAMPLE SCRIPT
“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am very concerned about the unqualified, racist, extremist executive nominees that Trump is sending to the Senate for confirmation—Sam Clovis (top USDA scientist), Jeffrey Bossert Clark (head of DOJ’s environmental enforcement division) and Eric Dreiband (director of DOJ’s civil rights division). The usual vetting process isn’t working.  I am asking the Senator to put HOLDS on these nominees until Trump sends ones who will carry out the duties of these agencies, rather than undermining them from within. Thank you.”

**ACTION 2: SHARE WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY**

Share this post with friends and family. And help them call their Senators’ offices, requesting holds on these executive branch nominees until Trump agrees to ones who will carry out the duties of these agencies rather than undermining them from within.
