Trump shocked Americans when he announced his pardon of racist Sheriff Joe Arpaio as Hurricane Harvey battered Texas. Arpaio had been convicted of criminal contempt for defying a federal judge’s order to stop violating the civil rights of Latinos. http://nyti.ms/2eT87Nd Many also saw the pardon as a signal that Trump will protect those being investigated by Mueller. http://wapo.st/2x45p26

Trump’s pardon:
• was an abuse of power http://nym.ag/2wwEOJD
• violated basic tenets of separation of powers, by preventing the judiciary from performing its constitutional duties http://bit.ly/2x3HorM

• undermines the rule of law

Congress must act immediately to oppose Trump’s abuse of power and protect the Mueller investigation by:
• ensuring adequate funding for the Mueller probe
• making clear to Trump obstructing justice by pardoning those investigated by Mueller will not stand
