WE THE PEOPLE AGENDA: PASS THE DREAM ACT WITH NO FUNDING FOR TRUMP’S WALL
————————————————————————————
#SupportDACA
#SupportChildhoodArrivals
#NoDeportationNoWall

Today, our “We the People” agenda for our Members of Congress focuses on immigration.

Trump has already ended CAM, which granted Central American minors temporary legal status, http://wapo.st/2erRhIl.  He is threatening a government shutdown if Congress doesn’t fund his wall. http://nyti.ms/2elTnpb.

Now the DACA program, which protects 800,000 youth immigrants from deportation, faces a similar fate.  Ten attornyes general are pressuring Trump to dismantle the program by Tuesday… http://politi.co/2vJvS0w
• Despite overwhelming public support and popularity in Congress, even among Republicans http://bit.ly/2vMz3UA;
• Despite pleas from 100 immigration law professors and 132 business leaders, reminding Trump that cancellation is bad economics, bad politics, and un-American.

If repealed, Dreamers and their parents would be easy ICE targets, due to registration requirement and filed tax returns http://nyti.ms/2el1WAF

A few of Trump’s aides are reportedly encouraging him to retain DACA as bargaining chip for his border wall. Others are advocating dismantling the program. http://bit.ly/2eHzgCG

Congress cannot wait. Our MoCs must take the lead on:
• Immediate passage of pending bipartisan legislation, the DREAM Act (S.1615/HR.3440), American Hope Act (HR.3591)
• Qualifying childhood arrivals for permanent legal status and eventual citizenship
• Rejection of Trump’s attempts to trade DACA for border wall.

**ACTION 1: CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE
(Leave a voice mail if needed.)

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR BLUMENAUER, BONAMICI, AND SHRADER
“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [ZIP code]. I am very concerned that Trump will soon get rid of DACA, as he did with CAM, or that he will agree to retain DACA only if he gets funding for his unpopular border wall. Thank you for co-sponsoring the American Hope Act (HR.3591). I urge you to push for quick passage of this and the DREAM Act (HR.3440), so that young immigrants can continue to contribute to our society without fear of deportation. I am also asking you to stand firm against Trump’s attempts to trade DACA for his border wall and to vote against any legislation that would fund the wall. Thank you."

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR DEFAZIO AND WALDEN
“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [ZIP code]. I am very concerned that Trump will soon get rid of DACA, as he did with CAM, or that he will agree to retain DACA only if he gets funding for his unpopular border wall. I am calling to express my support for the DREAM Act (HR.3440) and the American Hope Act (HR.3591) and the thousands of Dreamers who contribute to our society. I urge you to push for votes on these bipartisan efforts to give those who arrived in the United States as children a path to permanent legal status and eventual citizenship. I am also asking you to refuse any attempts to trade DACA for Trump’s border wall and to vote against any legislation that would fund the wall. Thank you."

“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [ZIP code]. I am very concerned that Trump will soon get rid of DACA, as he did with CAM, or that he will agree to retain DACA only if he gets funding for his unpopular border wall. I urge you to push for the quick passage of the bipartisan Durbin-Graham DREAM Act (S.1615), which takes the DREAMer’s future out of Trump’s hands and provides a path to permanent legal status and eventual citizenship. I am also asking you to stand firm against Trump’s attempts to trade DACA for his border wall and to vote against any legislation that would fund the wall. Thank you."

**ACTION 3: CALL ELLEN ROSENBLUM, OREGON’S ATTORNEY GENERAL **
Phone: (503-378-6002)

“My name is [--] and I live in [city]. I’m calling to express my serious concern about the legal challenge threatened by 10 State Attorneys General to end the DACA program. Dreamers in school, in the workforce, or who are veterans contribute greatly to our society and should be given a path to citizenship, not deported. I urge you to join the coalition of Democratic attorneys general, led by California’s Xavier Becerra, to defend the Dreamers in Oregon and nationally. Thank you.”
