ACTION: CALL FOR RELEASE OF TRUMP'S TAXES

From Indivisible Oregon...

**CALL TO ACTION**
Wednesday, September 13, 2017
————————————————————————————
DEMAND FULL TRANSPARENCY AND RELEASE OF TRUMP’S TAXES
————————————————————————————
#ReleaseTheReturns

While all of us were rightly focused on DACA, hurricanes and wildfires, the GOP again blocked obtaining Trump’s tax returns.  They refuse to provide presidential oversight.  We must hold Trump and Congress accountable.

Trump’s failure to observe conflict of interest norms prevents us from knowing when he profits from the presidency.
• Federal, state, and foreign government payments for stays at Trump’s resorts flow undisclosed directly to him in violation of constitutional constraints. http://theatln.tc/2fqBdXk
• Wealthy individuals and lobbyists pay for access to Trump by joining his clubs. https://usat.ly/2eJEVeS

Trump has no intention of being transparent, having broken promises to:
• Release his tax returns http://bit.ly/2nEO9rz
• Donate profits from foreign governments http://nym.ag/2xYOb2o
• Ensure that “no new foreign deals will be made” http://theatln.tc/2fqBdXk
• Terminate “all pending deals” http://theatln.tc/2fqBdXk
• Substantively separate himself from his businesses http://theatln.tc/2fqBdXk

Congress must exercise its power to obtain Trump’s tax returns (http://wapo.st/2xTJFCp) and pass the Presidential Conflicts of Interest Act (S. 65/H.R. 371), requiring presidents to release their tax returns and divest interests posing potential conflicts of interest http://bit.ly/2wZwmCB

Trump is flouting the constitution with his lack of ethics.  Congress must act.  We need transparency – and the first step is to see Trump’s tax returns.

SAMPLE SCRIPT for Sen. Merkley and Reps. Blumenauer, Bonamici, DeFazio, Schrader

“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am deeply concerned about Trump’s failure to divest himself from the Trump Organization and his refusal to release his taxes. I’d like to thank the [Senator/Congressperson] for [his/her] support for the Presidential Conflicts of Interest Act.  However, this is not enough. I’m asking [him/her] to loudly and publicly refuse to consider any tax reform until Trump has released his taxes.  Americans have a right to know how Trump's tax plan will impact his personal fortune.”

“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am deeply concerned about Trump’s failure to divest himself from the Trump Organization and his refusal to release his taxes. Thank you for your past support for the Presidential Conflicts of Interest Act and all the actions you have taken to try to get Trump’s taxes released. It’s time to raise this issue again, now that Congress is considering tax reform. I’m asking the Senator to loudly and publicly refuse to consider any tax reform until Trump has released his taxes.  Americans have a right to know how Trump's tax plan will impact his personal fortune.”

SAMPLE SCRIPT for Rep Walden
“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am deeply concerned about Trump’s failure to divest himself from the Trump Organization and his refusal to release his taxes. To ensure that all of Trump’s decisions are not tainted by personal conflicts of interest, I urge you support the Presidential Conflicts of Interest Act. I’m asking the Congressman to loudly and publicly refuse to consider any tax reform until Trump has released his taxes.  Americans have a right to know how Trump's tax plan will impact his personal fortune.”
